I understand it might be frustrating to learn that you could have won a handsome sum if you purchased the ticket on December 10, 1998, but at least you know that this time, you probably shouldn’t bet on the same list.
5. Look for less popular games
Most people’s eyes are on the biggest national games due to the multi-million top prize. That leaves some better odds for the other, less popular games. The top prizes are likely smaller and less likely to be completely life-changing, but even a small prize can be a great source of joy.
6. Pick non-date numbers
A lot of people use significant dates in their lives as their lottery tickets (e.g., birthdays, anniversary dates, etc.). What do these numbers have in common? They are all less than or equal to 31.
Of course, given that the draw is random, all numbers have equal odds. However, if you pick numbers above 31, you may better protect yourself from having to share the prize pool with others in case you win.
7. Choose from a wide range of numbers
This is a very interesting strategy developed by lottery expert Gail Howard. He argued that to find a winning combination of numbers, you should make sure that the sum of the numbers you play falls within the “70 Percent Most Probably Range of Sums”.

The smallest sum is: 1+2+3+4+5 = 15
The largest sum is: 51+52+53+54+55 = 265.
Studies suggest that the “70 Percent Range” for 5/55 includes sets of numbers that add up to sums between 104 and 176. How the range is derived is quite technical, so if you don’t want to buy any lotto software or do any complicated calculations, you want to make sure that the lottery numbers you are picking are in between the two extremes.

8. Go with quick pick
When in doubt, go with quick pick when purchasing your lottery ticket. This will ensure that randomness is the only factor at play.
