Ninja net worth: Career and path to riches

Early careers

Relative little is known about his early days. What I gathered from his Wikipedia page is that Tyler “Ninja” Blevins actually started as a professional Halo player in 2009, when he was just 18 years old. He played for various organizations including Cloud9, Team Liquid, Renegades, and Evil Geniuses. Nowadays, he is a professional gamer with Luminosity Gaming, a professional esports organization based in North America.

Breakthrough: 2017 – 2018

His breakthrough came in 2017 when he began streaming Fortnite Battle Royale from Epic Games. The game started getting popular in late 2017 and early 2018. Playing Fornite really helped Ninja gain followership at that time. In September 2017, he had around 500,000 followers on Twitch. By March 2018, it grew to over 2 million.

In March 2018, Ninja played Fortnite with Drake, Travis Scott and American football player JuJu Smith-Schuster. That game set the Twitch record for the largest concurrent audience on an individual stream: a record number of 635,000 watched the game at the same time. In April 2018, he broke his own viewing record during his event Ninja Vegas 2018. Approximately 667,000 live viewers watched the stream at the same time. He also played with English footballers Harry Kane, Dele Alli, and Kieran Trippier.

Today

Ninja continued to enjoy tremendous success since his breakthrough in 2017. On August 1, 2019, Ninja signed an exclusive deal with Microsoft to stream exclusively on Microsoft’s Mixer platform. However, the platform was shut down in July 2020. He returned to Twitch after signing an exclusive multi-year deal in September 2020.

Ninja’s streaming setup

In case you are wondering, here are some of Ninja’s gaming gears that I was able to find online:

Games Ninja has played

Here is a list of video games that Ninja has played:

  • Fortnite (The Fortnite store has these cool action figures!)
  • PlayerUnkonwn’s Battlegrounds
  • Z1 Battle Royale
  • Halo
  • Apex Legends
  • Call of Duty: Warzone
  • Valorant
  • League of Legends (if you are a fan or know someone who’s a fan, you may be interested in this awesome mouse pad!)

Ninja’s source of net worth

Ninja is a successful internet personality on Twitch and YouTube. He was already making $500,000 a month playing video games in 2018.

His net worth comes from the following sources:

Twitch

Subscriptions

There are three subscription levels, $4.99, $9.99 and $24.99. People can also get a free subscription if they are Amazon Prime members.

Streamers like Ninja make approximately 50% of the subscription fee. Ninja’s subscriber count changes every month. His all-time high was achieved in April 2018, with a little over 269,000. He currently has around 7,000. With such a large fan base, Ninja can make a comfortable living on subscriptions alone.

Cheering and Bits

Cheering is another easy and popular way to earn money on Twitch. Fans can buy bits, Twitch’s virtual currency, and then “cheer” with them if they like what Ninja does on his platform.

Ads

Ads is another popular way to make some money on Twitch. Ninja earns about 2-3 cents per viewer. Ninja’s total view so far is 527 million, which means that he has made approximately 10 million through ads alone since he first started.

Partnership with Twitch

As I mentioned before, Ninja signed an exclusive multi-year deal with Twitch to stream exclusively on the platform. Although the exact financial terms are never revealed, we can imagine how big of a boost it must be for Ninja as an exclusive content creator on the platform.

Sponsorship deals

Ninja also earns a healthy income through sponsorship deals. For example, in February 2019, Ninja was reported by Reuters to have been paid US$1 million by Electronic Arts to promote Apex Legends, a competing battle royale game to Fortnite, for playing the game on his Twitch stream and promoting the title through social media account during Apex release.

Since then, he has added additional partners into his portfolio, including Red Bull, Uber Eats, Adidas, etc.

Ads on his YouTube channel

As we all know, YouTubers can make money from advertisers. Ninja is not an exception.

The average CPM (cost per thousand impressions) on YouTube is around $2.00. This means that for 1000 monetized views, Ninja can earn $2. Ninja’s main channel on YouTube has had 2.4 billion views, which means that Ninja has earned about 4.8 million on his YouTube channel so far.

Merchandises

Ninja also sells merchandises (mostly clothing) on his personal website, Team Ninja. You can find tees, hoodies, footwear, outwear and bottoms.

He donated $30,000 in January 2020 during a livestream of Australian YouTuber Lachlan to benefit an Australian bushfire charity.

In March 2020, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins and his wife Jessica Blevins donated $150,000 “on behalf of team Ninja” to Feeding America, a nonprofit organization currently providing to food banks and children who depended on school lunches during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ninja net worth: Lessons learned from his path to wealth

Diversify your income

As you can see above, Ninja has multiple streams of income. Diversification of income sources is incredibly important because it provides a better safety net and it helps you reach long-term financial goals while minimizing risk.

Be with people who help you grow

Those who are familiar with Ninja knows that his wife, Jessica Belvins, not only is an influencer herself but is also his manager. Without her help, support and encouragement, Ninja probably wouldn’t have been able to achieve such phenomenal success that he enjoys today.

Having a supportive significant other, family and friends is important. Although you cannot choose your family, you can definitely who your significant other is, and who your friends are.

Surround yourself with people who will help you grow.

Don’t give up

I have echoed this in Tom Brady net worth post. Tom Brady was selected with pick number 199 in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots but went on to become the Greatest-of-all-times (GOAT) in American football history.

You can see the same theme for Ninja as well. He started streaming in 2011, but his breakthrough did not come until 2017, 6 years later. Had he given up, he wouldn’t have enjoyed the success he had today.

6 years is a very long time. Kudos to Ninja for keeping at it.

Blevins’ net worth is a remarkable $40 million. He is best known as a successful video game streamer and one of the biggest and richest people playing video games on Twitch. Today, he has amassed almost 20 million followers on the platform, and the number keeps on growing. He is certainly among the online personalities with the highest net worth.

  1. The part about Twitch subcribers is wrong – Twich has followers and subcribers. Followers don’t pay anything (like on Youtube). He has around 7000 Subscribers and 16million followers. Subcriber counts vary from month to month – his record Was 250k which was I think the highest ever achieved
